Banks, offices, government institutions, most shops and many museums are closed on national holidays in Florence, as well as on the Florentine local holiday on June 24th, which commemorates the town's patron saint, San Giovanni Battista (St. John the Baptist). During the long weekend of August 15th. almost everything in Florence (and Italy) closes.
