In May 2025, it was announced that Constitution Day (December 25th) would be a new public holiday in Taiwan, along with four other holidays.
Constitution Day had previously been a public holiday from 1963 until 2000. It was then cancelled/rebranded to a memorial day as Taiwan was adopting a five-day working week instead of the traditional six days.
The Constitution of the Republic of China is the fifth and current constitution of the Republic of China (ROC), ratified by the Kuomintang during the Constituent National Assembly session on December 25th 1946, in Nanking, and adopted on December 25th 1947.
The constitution, along with its Additional Articles, remains effective in ROC-controlled territories.
