  Summary

Celebrating the contribution of the members of the Lutsango Regiment in improving the Buganu ceremony and preserving the national culture.

Minister of Home Affairs, Princess Lindiwe, has officially announced that Monday March 16th 2026 will be observed as a national holiday across the Kingdom.

This declaration is specifically intended to facilitate the conclusion of the Buganu Festival at Hlane and to allow for the formal release of the regiments.

The Minister explained that after three days of rigorous song, dance, and cultural tribute, the participants require a dedicated day to rest and transition back to their daily lives.

By declaring Monday a holiday, the government ensures that the thousands of men and women who form the regiments can depart from the royal residence in an orderly and safe manner without the pressure of immediate work or school obligations.

Lutsango Day is a public holiday celebrated in Eswatini, on the Monday following the second part of the annual Buganu festival. It was established in 2025, replacing the birthday of King Sobhuza II, which was previously celebrated on July 22nd.

King Mswati III announced the creation of Lutsango Day in February 2025 during the first part of the Buganu ceremony. The main purpose of the holiday is to recognise the contribution of the members of the Lutsango Regiment in improving the Buganu ceremony and preserving the national culture. The celebration is held at the Hlane National Park Royal Residence.
