The national government of South Sudan has declared Friday, 25th April 2025, as a National Public Holiday to mourn his holiness Pope Francis who died on Easter Monday.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Cabinet Minister Dr. Martin Elia Lomurö described his holiness pope Francis as a beacon of peace, compassion and humility whose moral leadership and unwavering advocacy for the poor, the marginalized and the voiceless inspired millions around the world including South Sudan.
The Minister said Pope Francis historic efforts for peace and reconciliation in our country including his unprecedented gesture of humility during the 2019 Vatican retreat where he kissed the feet of South Sudanese leaders, will remain etch in the hearts of our nation as a symbol of hope, healing and unity.
