MALACAÑANG has declared August 14th 2026, as a special non-working holiday in Davao City, in time for the celebration of the Kadayawan Festival in the city.
Through Proclamation No. 1372, series of 2026, the Office of the President has declared August 14th as a holiday in Davao City. The proclamation was signed on July 29th 2026, by Executive Secretary Ralph G. Recto.
“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Davao be given full opportunity to participate in the occasion and enjoy the celebration,” the proclamation said.
What is the Kadayawan Festival?
The Kadayawan Festival is a yearly celebration of life, giving thanks for nature’s gifts, cultural richness, abundant harvests, and peaceful living.
The festival was once called the Apo Duwaling Festival, named after three Davao icons: Mount Apo, durian, and the waling-waling orchid.
In earlier years, this festival took place during the third week of August, emphasizing Davao City’s 11 tribes. In 2019, the celebration was lengthened to run from 2 to 31 August, with activities starting as early as July and continuing throughout August.
A major highlight of the Kadayawan Festival is the Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan, meaning street dancing. It presents the region’s diverse indigenous cultures. The celebration includes various Mindanao communities performing in colorful costumes that emphasize their native heritage.
