In view of the adverse weather conditions the Sultanate of Oman is witnessing, and based on the public interest requirements, it has been decided that tomorrow Monday will be an official holiday for employees of the units of the state’s administrative apparatus and other legal persons and workers in private sector establishments in all governorates of the Sultanate of Oman with the exception of the governorates of Dhofar and Al Wusta.

Workers whose work requires them to be on duty on this day may report to office on the aforementioned day if necessary, taking into account compliance with general precautions and occupational health and safety requirements, provided that they get compensated for this day.

Moderate to heavy rains lashed several governorates on Sunday. The Ministry of Education and Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation suspended classes in public and private schools and colleges in all governorates except Dhofar and Al Wusta on Monday.

Rains in the range of 40mm to 80mm are expected in some places with downdraft winds in the range of 15 and 35 knots, leading to overflowing wadis.

Monday October 23rd - Tuesday October 24th 2023

Due to adverse weather conditions currently affecting the Sultanate of Oman, authorities have declared Monday October 23rd and Tuesday October 24th 2023 as official holidays for both public and private sector employees in the Dhofar Governorate and the Wilayat of Al Jazir in the Al Wusta Governorate.

In a statement on social media, Oman’s Ministry of Labour said: “In view of the climatic conditions that the Sultanate of Oman is witnessing, and based on what is required by the public interest, it was decided that Monday and Tuesday, on the 23rd and 24th, will be an official holiday for employees in the units of the state administrative apparatus and other legal persons and workers in private sector establishments in all the states of the Dhofar Governorate and the Wilayat of Al Jazar in the Governorate.”

The Gulf nation is experiencing inclement weather conditions due to Cyclone Tej. Oman's Ministry of Health has activated its 24-hour call centre in preparation for the tropical situation that will directly affect the Dhofar Governorate and parts of the Al Wusta Governorate. Both Al-Daharez and New Salalah health centers will be closed from 2:30 pm Sunday October 22nd until further notice.
