The government has decided to declare September 8th a public holiday to observe Gen Z Martyrs' Day. The decision was taken by the Cabinet meeting, according to Sasmit Pokharel, Minister of Education and Sports and Cabinet spokesperson.
The Gen Z movement took place on September 8th and 9th l2025. Forty-five people who died during the movement were declared martyrs by the government.
The violent anti-government agitation led to K P Sharma Oli's resignation and Sushila Karki being sworn in as the country's caretaker prime minister.
