August 12th Update

Myanmar's State Administration Council has extended the public holiday period for one more week to August 22nd for further prevention, control and treatment of COVID-19 infection, state-run media reported.

According to the council's separate order, the Central Bank of Myanmar and its subordinate government banks and private banks will be closed from August 16th to 20th.

August 8th Update

Myanmar's State Administration Council has further extended the public holiday period to Aug. 15 for further prevention, control and treatment of Covid-19 infection.

According to the council's order on Saturday, the Central Bank of Myanmar and its subordinate government banks and private banks will be exempted from the public holidays.

August 1st Update

The State Administrative Council announces an extension of ‘public holidays’ to contain Covid-19 infections. This extension is in place from August 2nd to August 8th. The Central Bank of Myanmar, public banks, and private banks have not been included in the ‘public holidays.’

July 24th Update

The holidays have been extended from July 26th to August 1st (except for the Central Bank of Myanmar and government banks under its operation, and private banks). The order says such public holidays were announced to effectively prevent the spread of Covid-19.

About these Public Holidays

The State Administration Council issued an order (No.211/2021) on the night of July 14 announcing a long public holiday from July 17th to 25th 2021.

The Myanmar regime will expand the number of public holidays during the week from two to five, in an attempt to contain the spread of COVID-19 amid a surge in infections and deaths in the country. It announced on Wednesday that July 17th to 25th 2021 will all be official public holidays.

In an order signed by its secretary, the regime’s governing body, the State Administration Council (SAC), said it had “designated the two weekdays—July 20th and July 22nd —as public holidays in order to effectively conduct the COVID-19 prevention, control and treatment activities.”

In a separate order, it also declared Qurbani Eid Day on July 21 (Wednesday) as a public holiday. Martyrs’ Day on July 19 (Monday) and Waso Full Moon Day on July 23 (Friday) were already official public holidays.
