Due to the General Elections to the Legislative Assembly 2026 taking place on Thursday April 23rd 2026, the poll day has to be declared as a public holiday under section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.

Legislative Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in Tamil Nadu on April 23rd 2026 to elect all 234 members of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. The votes will be counted, and the results will be declared on May 4th 2026. 

Elections to a State legislative assemblies in India are usually held once in five years, and the members of the legislative assembly are directly elected to serve five year terms from single-member constituencies.
