  Summary

This day has been declared as a public holiday to allow citizens to participate in the general elections.

The Guyana government has ordered that Monday March 2nd 2020 will be a national holiday to allow voters to participate in the general elections.

The announcement of the holiday follows calls by the business community and other stakeholders to give the day as a holiday.

Minister of Public Security Khemraj Ramjattan issued the order which has since been published in the Official Gazette.

On E-Day, the Polls open at 6am and close at 6pm, though results will not be known for several days due to the remoteness of some polling stations.

The leader of the single party or coalition which emerges with the largest number of seats in the election will become the President of Guyana. David A. Granger has been President since winning the last election by one vote in May 2015.
