  Summary

Information about the attempts to tackle the Coronavirus Outbreak by declaring public holidays.

Coronavirus Non-Working Days

All employees working for non-essential businesses will get time off during this period.

Private businesses will decide whether to give their employees paid time off or switch them to remote work, with many expected to allow employees to work remotely.

Online shopping and deliveries are not affected by the restrictions. Government services will still be available online, with in-person public services suspended.

November Non-Working Days

Russia’s workers were ordered to stay off work for a week starting at the end of October amid soaring numbers of new COVID-19 infections and deaths.

Russian President Vladimir Putin approved the government’s plans to order workers across the country a week off, in a bid to halt a sharp spike in the number of deaths from coronavirus.

Under the plans, offices will be closed nationwide between October 30th and November 7th 2021, but Putin added that in some regions where the situation is the most threatening, the non-working period could start as early as Saturday and be extended after November 7th.

May Non-Working Days

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree to make May 4th - Friday May 7th 2021 non-working days and extend the public holiday period at the beginning of May due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The measure was billed as a way to "preserve the downward trend in the number of coronavirus infections and promote health of Russian citizens," according to a Kremlin statement.

The holidays are bookended by public holidays for the May Day Holiday on May 3rd and the Victory Day Holiday on May 10th, creating a 10-day break.

President Putin was backing a proposal by the head of Russia's health watchdog was asked Putin to introduce a non-working period over May 1st - 11th to prevent a surge in coronavirus infections.

"If you think that it's necessary, let's do it. Today I'll sign the relevant decree," Putin said in a televised meeting in response to a proposal from the head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova.

She said that the non-working stint was part of an effort to limit the time Russians spend on public transport and their exposure to the virus.
