In April 2026, the government revived the “National Revolution and Solidarity Day” on November 7th, declaring it a national holiday. It will be observed as a Category "Ka" day.
The “National Revolution and Solidarity Day” was observed by President Ziaur Rahman, President Hussein Muhammad Ershad and the BNP-led governments.
First observed in 1991, the 2006-08 caretaker government decided to annul the national day, and the successive governments did not restore it.
National Revolution and Solidarity Day commemorates the November 7th 1975 Bangladeshi coup d'état (Sipahi–Janata Revolution) by regular army soldiers and the common masses that showed solidarity with them.
The day marks the end of the political turmoil and series of coups and counter-coups that occurred after the assassination of Mujibur Rahman, the founding President of Bangladesh, on 15 August 1975.
