Bangladesh Parliamentary Polls in Bangladesh in 2026
The government has announced executive holidays across the country on 11 and 12 February, marking the 13th national parliamentary election.
In addition, a special holiday has been declared for industrial areas on 10 February.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued a gazette notification announcing the three-day holiday.
February 11th - 12th 2026
The government has declared a public holiday on Feb 11, the day before the 13th national parliamentary election and referendum. The Advisory Council has also approved an additional day off for factory workers in industrial areas on Feb 10.
A public holiday had previously been declared on Feb 12, election day.
The decision was taken at an Advisory Council meeting on Thursday January 22nd 2026, said Shafiqul Alam, the press secretary to the chief advisor, at a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy.
In addition to the previously declared public holiday on Feb 12, the Advisory Council had declared a public holiday on Feb 11 and an additional holiday for workers and officials in industrial areas on Feb 10, he said.
January 7th 2024
The government has officially declared January 7th 2024 as a general holiday across the country.
This significant decision, aimed at facilitating the electoral process, was conveyed through a notification signed by Atiar Rahman, Deputy Secretary of Election Management-2, issued on Sunday December 24th 2023.
The declaration of a public holiday aligns with the schedule announced by Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal for the 12th parliamentary election on November 15th.
As per the election timetable, the campaign period commenced on December 18th and is set to continue until 8 am on January 5th, allowing political parties and candidates a designated timeframe for canvassing and public engagement.
The decision to designate January 7th as a general holiday underscores the government's commitment to fostering a conducive environment for citizens to exercise their democratic right to vote.
By providing a day off on the day of polling, authorities aim to ensure that voters have the time and freedom to participate in the electoral process without any undue constraints.
December 30th 2018
The Bangladeshi government has declared 30 December 2018 as a public holiday to enable the voters to cast their votes without hassles from work-related commitments.
A letter signed by joint secretary (election wing) of the Election Commission (EC) was been sent on Monday 17 December 2018 to the Public Administration Ministry to this regard.
The voting in the 11th parliamentary polls will be held on December 30 December 2018.
