History of Imoinu Iratpa

Emoinu or Ebendhou Emoinu or Emoinu Ahongbi, is the Sanamahism goddess of wealth, prosperity and vital resources and is worshipped by the Meitei people of Manipur, northeastern India.

Emoinu is known for her sense of humor. She is usually portrayed as an old woman as her name means 'great-grandmother' in Meiteilon. In Meitei mythology, she is associated with household, hearth, kitchen, wealth, peace, and prosperity. She is also associated as one of the incarnations of the goddess Leimarel Sidabi.

During the evening of Imoinu Iratpa, offerings are made to Emoinu - fish curries and a variety of cuisines in odd numbers.

The festival is believed to bring the worshippers of goddess Imoinu great wealth and prosperity. Along with it, people pray for peace and positivity in their life.
