Public sector workers have been given all of Holy week as a holiday to encourage domestic tourism
Local name
Semana Santa
In Honduras, the importance of these dates goes beyond simply being a day off from work. Holy Week is part of a deeply rooted religious and cultural tradition, expressed in processions, liturgical activities, reenactments of the Passion of Christ, and family traditions.
It is also one of the times of greatest internal travel within the country.
The holiday, therefore, combines religious tradition, popular culture, rest, and tourism.
