The government has declared a public holiday across Nepal on Tuesday October 18th 2022 to mourn cultural historian and polymath Satya Mohan Joshi’s death.
Centenarian Joshi passed away at the age of 103 while undergoing treatment at 7:09 AM on Sunday October 16th 2022. Joshi was undergoing treatment at Kist Medical College in Gwarko, Lalitpur. He was admitted to Kist Hospital on September 23 due to health problems.
As a symbol of state honour, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba draped the national flag on Joshi’s body to offer the final tribute.
According to a notice issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the holiday was declared.
