The State Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will take place on Monday September 19th 2022.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced that Monday September 19th 2022 will be a holiday so that federal employees can mourn Queen Elizabeth II on the day of her state funeral.

Trudeau also said he's working with the provinces on a possible public holiday for other workers but Ontario and Quebec, Canada's two most populous provinces declined to make it a holiday.

Alberta

Alberta will mark the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II with a provincial day of mourning, but the day will not be a statutory holiday for most workers.

British Columbia

British Columbia says it will follow the federal government’s lead to observe the national day of mourning to mark the queen’s funeral.

“K-12 public schools and public post-secondary institutions, and most Crown corporations will be closed,” said B.C. Premier John Horgan in a statement. “We encourage private-sector employers to find a way to recognize or reflect on the day in a way that is appropriate for their employees.”

Manitoba

All non-essential government services and offices will be closed in Manitoba on Sept. 19, according to a news release from the Government of Manitoba. However, schools, child-care facilities and healthcare facilities will remain open.

New Brunswick

The province will observe the national day of mourning by closing schools and government offices, but the holiday will be optional for private-sector businesses and employers.

Newfoundland and Labrador

Newfoundland and Labrador has declared Sept. 19 as a day to “honour the memory of Her late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II,” the government said on Twitter. This will be a one-time-only holiday, in which provincial government offices, schools and other entities will be closed, while the holiday remains optional for private business and employers.

Northwest Territories

The Northwest Territories will not declare a holiday for Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.

Nova Scotia

Nova Scotia will mark Sept. 19 as a provincial holiday in honour of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral service, according to a press release. This means Nova Scotia government offices, public schools and regulated child care will be closed, while healthcare services, appointments and procedures will remain operational across the province, it states.

Nunavut

The Government of Nunavut will join the federal government in giving its employees the day off on Sept. 19 for the National Day of Mourning for Queen Elizabeth. “Private employers are welcomed to follow suit but are not required to do so,” stated Matthew Illaszewicz, communications manager for the Human Resources Department, in a news release.

Ontario

Ontario will not declare Monday a public holiday for Queen Elizabeth II's funeral. Instead, the province will mark Sept. 19 as as provincial "Day of Mourning" for Ontarians. People can observe a moment of silence at 1:00 p.m. ET that day, Ford said in a statement.

Prince Edward Island

The province said Monday will be treated like other statutory holidays for all provincially regulated employees and that provincial government offices and public schools will be closed.

Quebec

Quebec Premier François Legault has said while the day will be commemorated, it will not be a statutory holiday in the province.

Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan has proclaimed Sept. 19 to be a day to honour the queen, but it has not been designated as a provincial public statutory holiday, according to the provincial government’s press release.

Yukon

Yukon's government has announced it will be joining the federal government and other provinces in observing a national day of mourning to coincide with the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

The territory says there will be a one-time holiday for public-sector employees, while public schools and other public-facing services will be closed on Monday, Sept. 19.
