A public holiday has been announced in Karachi on April 23rd 2024.

In a notification issued on Sunday, the Karachi commissioner said all public and private offices and schools will remain closed in the metropolis.

"In view of the visit of Foreign Dignitaries and to avoid inconvenience to the general public, Tuesday, the 23rd April, 2024 is hereby declared as Public Holiday in Karachi Division," read the notification. 

The public holiday has been announced owing to the arrival of foreign dignitaries, as per the notification.

It further said the essential services and officials involved in emergency duties will remain operational on April 23rd.

The Government of Sindh has announced a public holiday in Karachi and Hyderabad on Tuesday July 26th 2022 due to heavy rainfall. According to the details, the announcement comes as relentless rain continues in both cities causing urban flooding and power outages in several areas.

Sindh government has declared Monday July 25th 2022 a public holiday for provincial capital Karachi and Hyderabad divisions amid heavy rainfall southeastern region.

PPP leader and provincial government spokesperson Murtaza Wahab announced that Monday, July 25th, will be a public holiday in Karachi and Hyderabad Divisions, after relentless rain continued on Sunday, which caused water logging and suspension of power in several areas.

Sindh information minister also called on the private sector to close their office tomorrow as many of the areas sink amid the recent monsoon spell.

Earlier, the provincial government spokesperson, who is also the KMC administrator, had said that the government is aware of the situation that has emerged after the rains that hit the province and added that Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah will take a decision after holding consultations on the situation.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has declared Friday August 28th as a public holiday due to the heavy rains across the province.

The Sindh Chief Minister said in a statement that all government, semi-government and private institutions across the province would remain closed on Friday.

However, the offices of essential service institutions, municipalities, health, water board, PDMA and revenue will remain open.

Talking about the weather situation, the Sindh Chief Minister said that the rains would continue intermittently till Friday evening. He said the government is in contact with the Army, Navy and NDMA. He warned that settlements and population along the nullahs are at risk of flooding.

Murad Ali Shah said that rainwater will be drained once the downpour stops because if it rains again, it will cause even more trouble. He appealed to the citizens not to leave their homes.

He said that water has entered houses everywhere including less developed areas of the city. He also said that Ministers have been on duty in each district overseeing relief operations and called the torrential rains a natural calamity which will have long-reaching effects.
