About Melaka Governor's Birthday
Located on the Malay Peninsula's southwest coast, Malacca is a Malaysian state that has a rich historical heritage with ancient landmarks and colonial structures.
It was here that colonial forces first made contact with Malaysia, which eventually shaped the country into its current economic and political system.
Although it was the location of one of the earliest Malay sultanates, the monarchy was abolished when the Portuguese conquered it in 1511.
The head of state is the Yang di-Pertua Negeri or Governor, rather than a Sultan.
